July Pylon Racing
Pylon Racing is coming!
WHEN: July 9th at 9:30am
WHERE: Ron Smith Memorial RC Park
Here are the details for our first race:
Plane Details:
The ONLY plane we will be racing is the FMS T28 v2 (The 800mm version). In later races we will probably open up to additional classes once we see how the first race goes.
You can purchase one at Horizon Hobby or any hobby store that has them in stock.
- ESC: This plane comes stock with a 20A speed controller which in our testing, rides the edge of safety. For this reason we are allowing any ESC you wish to install in your plane but you must stick with the stock motor.
- Prop: We will allow the stock prop or an APC 7x6E.
- Gyro: The stock plane comes with an orange gyro and a bunch of servo / receiver wires. Feel free to pull out that dead weight if you want.
- Battery: The only limitation on the battery we have is that it must be a 3 cell battery. Pilots have had success with 800mAh to 1100mAh in size.
- Markings: Each plane will be expected to have a unique marking so spotters and pylon judges will be able to identify your plane. It can either be a color scheme (paint job) or a VERY visible decal with a number. Be creative!
Race Details
- 3 heats of 6 laps each. (Plan your battery size accordingly)
- Starts will be from the air.
- Left turns around the pylons. No cutting! Pylon judges will deduct your score if you turn prior to the pylon.
- Take off will commence 30 seconds prior to race start
- Each pilot will have his/her own spotter to call out when they cross the lap / finish line. Spotters can be anyone at the field not currently flying in the race.
- We will have up to 5 planes running in a single heat. Fly safe!
If you have any questions about the plane or the races feel free to send an email to webmaster.weedwackers@gmail.com

Lakeside Western Days Parade
In about 2 weeks on Saturday April 23rd, the Weedwackers are participating in the Lakeside Western Days Parade.
We’ll present a collection of models on a float/trailer and will have the pleasure of riding through the streets of Lakeside, raising awareness of our club within the community and hopefully generating some interest in the hobby.
We’d appreciate your help!
To prepare the float, we’ll meet at 4pm on Friday April 22nd at the club field where we’ll prepare the trailer/float with support frames and some bling.
Then at 7:30 am on Saturday April 23rd we’ll meet the float at our staging area (yet to be assigned) to stage our models on the float.
Bring your model to show – If you have a model of any size or type that you’d like to show off, bring it to the staging area and we’ll nail it to the float. Well, we’ll attach it safely.
Riders welcome! This year, our float will be a 40 foot trailer graciously provided by the San Diego Aerospace Museum through the efforts of Bruce Allen. We’ll have room for several riders on the float to wave at the cheering crowd, so let us know if you want to ride!
Ron Keith will be our driver, and he’ll need spotters to walk alongside the route for safety. We also would like to enlist a pair of members to walk our banner out in front of the float.
The parade starts moving at 9:35 am. We’ll likely be moving out to the parade route around 10:15 and be back to unload the float at the staging area by 11am. We’ll offload the display models and then head back at the flying field to dismantle the rest of the float by 11:30.
If you can help or want to ride, please join us!
We’ll also need supplies of zip-ties, staple guns, sheet-rock screws and hand drills with screw bits.
I’m on business travel for the next few weeks, so Jeff (number is below) will help coordinate efforts.
Hope to see you there!
PLEASE CONTACT JEFF COSKEY IF YOU CAN HELP! V-P: Jeffrey Coskey 619-913-1455
